2009 Terry Peak Ski/Mardi Gras Trip will be Feb. 21-22 - Plan now!!
Welch Village/Red Wing Trip
Once again, the Welch Village/Red Wing Trip, January 19th & 20th, was
a great time, even in the sub-zero temperatures. Although it was cold on Saturday
(-15° in the morning and up to -2° in the afternoon), 20 hardy skiers
were on the slopes until quitting time. There were a few frozen fingers and
toes until hand and feet warmers were issued. It was so cold, it cracked the
lens of Renees goggles on a downhill run. The warm fire and hot toddies
at Mad Jax Ski Pub were a welcome break for warm-ups. Luckily, because there
was no wind, and the sunshine was abundant, it still made a great ski day.
The snow conditions were excellent all day. The only lift lines, were the
ones made up of ski club members. It was like we had rented the ski area for
the club for the day. The hot tub back at the hotel was extremely inviting.
So much fun was had on Saturday that everyone skied again on Sunday. There
was a heatwave on Sunday, when it got up to 4°. The group left Sunday
afternoon with heavy hearts knowing it would be a full year before the club
would return.
Deadwood/Mardi
Gras Weekend
Feb. 1st, 2008 8:00 A.M. the bus left Sams Club in Sioux City headed
for three days of adventure to Deadwood South Dakota. On tap for the long
weekend was a long bus trip with 43 souls going for down hill skiing, cross
country skiing, snowmobiling, Marti Gras excitement and a few trying to get
a big dance with lady luck. After stopping in Sioux Falls to pick up six more
riders, the bus headed for stops in Mitchel at Cabellas for a light
noon meal, last minute splurge buying, and coon skin hat photos The bus then
headed on for a second break in the trip to Wall, South Dakota. This is where
the Citys main street divides the group into two activities. One group
goes to the east side for souvenirs, the other for the saloon and Id
say both got what they needed in the forty five minutes. Then it was nonstop
to Cadillac Jacks in Deadwood. For the entire trip out and most of the
way back, there was a low to sometime loud rumble coming from the back of
the bus where the young folks were making the most of the week end of letting
loose and making morning headaches.
The outdoor activities had fantastic weather with beautiful sunshine and great
snow conditions. There was also warm weather for those who walked down town
for sight seeing, shopping and the Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday night. We
were blessed when the speakers for the DVD worked on the bus this year, that
McDonalds was ready for us in Chamberlin and no snow storm hampered our trip
back to Sioux City. Next Years trip will be announced when the city
of Deadwood sets the date for its Mardi Gras weekend, so keep reading
the news letters and checking the web site. Cindy and I want to thank all
who came and enjoyed the weekend with us. Without each and every one of you
there would be no trip!
Everyone Welcome!
